Betty, the daughter of John and Anna (Obermeier) Ragaller was born on March 23, 1943 on a farm southeast of Templeton, Iowa. At a very young age the family moved to a farm west of Westside. She attended St. Ann’s School in Vail, and later Ar-We-VA High School in Westside.
On November 26, 1960 Betty was united in marriage to James Halbur at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Vail. The couple made their home just east of Halbur where they were engaged in grain and livestock farming. In addition to helping Jim with the livestock, Betty was a devoted homemaker, caring for her family. The couple moved into Halbur in 1997. Betty enjoyed traveling, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, visiting the casino to play her penny slots, hosting her Saturday morning coffee group, and designing homes for the new housing addition on the north side of Halbur. Most of all Betty enjoyed the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Augustine Parish, and St. Augustine Ladies Guild.
Left to cherish Betty’s memory is her husband Jim Halbur of Halbur; six children: Lisa (Al) Eischeid of Halbur, Keith (Linda) Halbur of Omaha, John (Brigid) Halbur of Manning, Julie (Jon) Leonard of Carroll, DeAnn (Mark) Wittrock of Halbur, and D.J.
