Duane Nieland, 76 of Carroll, died Sunday morning at Regency Nursing Home in Carroll.
A private funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Officiating will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Casket Bearers will be Dan Nieland, Herm Nieland, Boze Nieland, Jay Nieland, Punky Nieland, and Casey Snyder. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda.

Born on January 7, 1944, at Carroll, Iowa, Duane was the son of Lawrence and Helen (Sander) Nieland. Duane grew up on the family farm near Breda at attended St. Bernard’s School. He enjoyed the farm and assisted his parents with their farm operation. Duane was a longtime resident of New Hope Village in Carroll and most recently a resident of Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Duane was an avid baseball fan and loved to collect baseball cards. He had an uncanny ability to remember baseball statistics and presidential history.
Duane is survived by his siblings: Gene (Becky) Nieland of Breda, Ruth (Leon) Tigges of Carroll, Lois (Peter) Cousseau of New York City, Sister Ione Nieland, FSPA of Carroll, and Ethel (Tom) Unger of Silverton, Oregon; as well as many nieces, nephews, and his family at New Hope Village and Regency Park.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Larry Nieland; his sister-in-law, Connie Nieland; his nieces, Julie Tigges – Bornong, Jill White, and his nephew, Steve Nieland.
