Born on March 7, 1931 in Templeton, Iowa, Jerome was the son on A.H. “Henry” and Anna (Thielen) Langel. He grew up southeast of Templeton and attended Sacred Heart School. Jerome served in the United States Army from 1954-1956, and following his honorable discharge returned to the Templeton area.
On May 21, 1957, Jerome was united in marriage to Ivadell Bruning. To this union was a son Glen. He and his wife Kay have 4 children. Following their marriage, the couple lived in town for a short time before moving to their farm east of Templeton. In 1995, they moved to their home in Templeton.
Jerome was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Templeton Knights of Columbus, and Dedham American Legion. He very much enjoyed his grandchildren and rarely missed any of their activities. He loved them dearly, especially seeing all of them active in the farm operation and carrying on the tradition. Jerome also enjoyed baseball, rooting for the Cubs and Cardinals. In his younger years he enjoyed trap shooting and hunting.
Three years ago, July 1st, the couple moved to Addington Place in Carroll. After moving there, they spent many trips to the farm to see the livestock and crops grow. We could drive around the country for hours and he would always say “boy do I enjoy this.”
Jerome is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ivadell Langel; his son Glenn and his wife Kay of Templeton; his grandchildren: Sara, Mitchell, Anna and Matthew; as well as many extended relatives and many friends.
His parents and his brother Gerald preceded him in death.
