Lyle Vonnahme, age 90, of Carroll, and formerly of Arcadia, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital and Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2022 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder. Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Richard Remmes. Music will be by Sharon Bierl and the St. John’s Choir. Lector will be Mike Vonnahme. Gift Bearers will be Jenny Stone, Laura Rothchild, Kim Brix, Emery Vonnahme and Easton Vonnahme. Eucharistic Ministers will be Steve and Rose Vonnahme. Casket Bearers will be Wes Thelen, Matt Thelen, David Vonnahme, Jim Vonnahme, Jake Vonnahme, Luke Vonnahme, Kyle Vonnahme, Ben Vonnahme and Noah Kouri. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Arcadia with military honors conducted by the Arcadia American Legion.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, after 5 p.m. on Thursday, where there will be a Rosary prayed at 7 p.m.

Born on February 19, 1932 at Carroll, Iowa, Lyle was the son of John and Leona (Otto) Vonnahme. He grew up on a farm near Mount Carmel before moving to the family farm near Arcadia, and graduated from Arcadia High School. Lyle served his country as a member of the US Army, stationed in California.
On April 21, 1956, Lyle was united in marriage to Lorraine (Grote) at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Carmel. The couple made their home near Arcadia, where Lyle farmed until his son’s took over the farm. Lyle enjoyed his profession as a rural mail carrier for many years until his retirement. Lyle assisted his wife Lorraine with the Farmer’s Market, he was longtime 4H Leader, and was an active member of the American Legion. He enjoyed his card club, visiting casinos with Lorraine and spending time with his family.
Left to celebrate Lyle’s life are his children: Steve (Rose) Vonnahme of Altoona, Mike (Janene) Vonnahme of Glidden, Lisa (Tom) Kouri of Arcadia, John (Cathy) Vonnahme of Arcadia, and Joe (Angie) Vonnahme of Carroll; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his in-laws Norma Vonnahme of Arcadia, Doreen Grote of Carroll, James (Mary Ann) Grote of Cave Creek, AZ, Bill (Nancy) Grote of Withee, WI, Ted (Peggy) Grote of Gibson City, IL, Jeanne (John) Rosener of South Sioux, NE, Mary Sailer of Manning, Alice (John) Hamilton of Jefferson, and Judy (Duane “Butch”) Olberding of Iowa City, Joyce Grote of Minooka, IL, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine; parents; his daughter Julie Vonnahme, his grandson Nathan Vonnahme; his brothers Leon Vonnahme and Leroy Vonnahme and Duane Vonnahme in infancy, his sisters Alice (Leo) Schmitz, Vera (Roland) Booth and Gladys (Loren) Steinkamp and brothers-in-law Paul and Irma Grote, Ralph Grote, Leonard Grote, Norbert (Fiddle) Grote, Jack Grote and Lenny Sailer.
