John Geier, age 83, of Ireton, formerly of Breda died Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota following a brief battle with lung cancer.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2020, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Pick. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling. Lectors for the Funeral Mass will be Amy Rallis, Joan Goeser, and Anna Sejnoha. Casket Bearers will be John’s grandsons’ Nathan Geier, Jack Geier, Ryan Goeser, Casey Geier, Jacob Geier, Jackson Geier, Sam Rallis, and Blake Rallis. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Breda. John was born on May 7, 1937, at Breda, Iowa, the son of John “Jack” and Lucille (Tharnish) Geier. He grew up in Breda and graduated from St. Bernard’s School in 1955. John was employed in the meatpacking industry, drove a truck, and worked as a farmhand until his death.
John had seven children with his first wife Karen: Tim, Mike, Joan, Chris, Pat, Amy, and Matt. John and his second wife Marsha had one child together, Anna. John enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, his annual Sno-mo-bowl Trip, and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. He loved to laugh, socialize, and spend time with his family and friends.
John is survived by his children: Tim (Denise) Geier of Council Bluffs, Mike (Toni) Geier of Council Bluffs, Joan (Russ) Goeser of Honey Creek, Chris (Lisa) Geier of White Bear Lake, MN, Pat (Dell) Geier of Santa Ynez, CA, Amy (Kris) Rallis of Council Bluffs, Matt (Christine) Geier of Ventura, CA, and Anna (Austin) Sejnoha of Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Denis Geier of Osage, MN and Bob (Donna) Geier of Granite Falls, MN; his special brother, Ray (Nancy) Kraus of Carroll; as well as other extended relatives.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy, Leroy Geier.
