Born November 18, 1920, in Wynot, Nebraska, Cyril was the son of Herman Henry and Maude Gassman Schulte. His family moved to Carroll when he was young and he attended Carroll High School where he was introduced to his lifelong love of wood working. He was drafted into the army and served in WWII from 1942 until the end of the war in 1945. He was a tank mechanic in the 135th Ordnance Maintenance Battalion, 13th Armored Division.
When he returned from the war he was united in marriage to Hilda Hausman on May 7, 1947, at St Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. He and Hilda enjoyed roller skating, bingo, bridge, and dancing. Cyril and Hilda made their home in Carroll where they raised their seven children in the St Lawrence Parish. He was an Auto Body Mechanic for Winker Service, McCoy Motors and Whaley before buying his own shop with his partner in 1977 and retiring in 1986. He was a jack of all trades and all the work he did on the families’ homes and cars was his “entertainment”. He never went anywhere without his trunk full of tools.
He will be remembered as a man of such integrity, faith, devoted to his family and a true role model. Left to celebrate his life are his children: Sharon Rogers of Omaha, Joan (Jack) Blair of Windsor, CO, Bob (Karin) Schulte of Williamsburg, IA, Mary Janning of Omaha, and Tricia (Jim) Elliston of Omaha, NE, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, his brother-in-law Andrew (Sally) Hausman of Arizona, sister-in-laws Esther Hausman of Halbur and Virginia Hausman of Michigan.
Cyril was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Hilda Hausman, his parents, his son Jim Schulte in 1971, his daughter Joyce Schulte in 1978, his son-in-law Bruce Rogers, his siblings: Vincent Schulte, Evelyn (Morris) Goecke, Raymond Schulte, Grace (Omar) Langenfeld, Bernard Schulte, Gerald (Deloris) Schulte, Gloria (Jack) Grimsman, and Marilyn (Earl) Kanne.
