Robert Leo Pottebaum, age 81, of Halbur, IA, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2020, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, IA surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 30, 2020, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur with Fr. Steven Brodersen as Celebrant and Fr. Lynn Bruch Concelebrating. Lectors for the Mass will be granddaughters: Kayla Raimondo, Tasha Hinners, and Susie Pottebaum. Casket bearers will be Bob’s grandsons: Jay Pottebaum, Adam Pottebaum, Cory Bruch, A.J. Pottebaum, Blake Pottebaum, and Carter Bruch. Burial will be in the St. Augustine Parish Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Arcadia American Legion.
Visitation without the family present will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. prior to the Mass on Monday.
Those in attendance at Bob's services are asked to abide by Covid-19 guidelines and facemasks are required.

Bob was born March 24, 1939, in Carroll, IA, and was the son of John and Coletta (Timmerman) Pottebaum. He grew up on his family’s farm west of Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1957. Following high school, he farmed with his father until enlisting in the United States Army serving for three years stationed in Ft. Benning, GA. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob returned home and was married to Rose Mary Rotert on January 25, 1964, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The couple lived a short time in the Glidden area before moving to Halbur where he became a partner at Rotert Construction for 36 years retiring in 2004. Bob served as a director of the St. Augustine Parish finance board for many years, and he was a director of the St. Augustine Holy Name Men’s Committee. He was a member of the Carroll Knights of Columbus, the Arcadia American Legion, the Carroll Moose Lodge, and he volunteered for many years with the Halbur Fire Department. Bob loved to go fishing with his grandchildren as well as his many good friends! He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and spending time with his family at the home they built in Lake View.
Bob is survived by his wife Rose Mary of 56 years of Halbur; his seven children and their families: Dean Pottebaum (Jane) of Carroll, Steve Pottebaum (Leslie Mayo) of Ankeny, Dale Pottebaum (Brenda) of Carroll, Linda Bruch (Loren) of Halbur, Kent Pottebaum (Stephanie) of Moline, IL, Keith Pottebaum (Ann) of Carroll, and Brian Pottebaum (Ashten) of Arcadia; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother Ray Pottebaum (Agnes) of Anita, IA; a sister Mary Lou Rotert of Omaha; his in-laws: Dorothy Riesberg of Carroll, Leon Rotert (Monica) of Carroll, Ruth Kokenge (Alan) of Halbur, Theresa Soppe of Templeton, Elaine Pottebaum of Carroll, and Lou Pottebaum of Carroll; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents John and Coletta Pottebaum; his father and mother-in-law John and Rose Rotert; brother Vern Pottebaum (Nora), brother Earl Pottebaum (Caroline), brother Don Pottebaum, brother Art Pottebaum, sister Rita Pottebaum; and three brothers-in-law Jerry, Norbert (Alvina), and Vern Rotert.
