Daniel Joseph Lechtenberg, son of Bernard H. and Elizabeth (Fangman) Lechtenberg, was born November 30, 1924, on the family farm 1.5 miles west of Templeton. He lived on the farm until 1966, when he moved to the city of Templeton. In 2016 he became a resident of Accura Healthcare of Manning in Manning, Iowa.
As a teenager, Daniel played baseball for the Templeton Merchants. After he attended Sacred Heart High School, Dan farmed, drove truck for Friedman Trucking, worked for Ocken Building & Supply, and Prebeck Construction until his retirement in 1996.
Dan was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Templeton and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed singing, playing the piano, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, playing cards and spending time with his dogs, all named Smarty.
On Saturday, October 10, 2020, Dan passed away at Accura of Manning in Manning, Iowa. He was 95 years, 10 months and 10 days of age.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; brother Alois Lechtenberg and wife Elaine; sisters Elaine and husband Alphonse Prebeck; and Ruth and husband Oswald Kisgen; nephews Joseph Prebeck in infancy, and Daniel Prebeck.
He is survived by ten nieces and nephews: Sharon Kisgen Edloff of Omaha, NE; James Kisgen and wife Jean of San Antonio, TX; Kay Lynn and husband Ron Wiederien of Derby, KS; Robert Lechtenberg and wife Bev of Vinton; Ronald Lechtenberg and wife Catherine of Denison; EuGene Prebeck and wife Eileen of Templeton; David Prebeck and wife Kathy of Ft. Dodge; Dale Prebeck of Templeton; William Prebeck and wife Karen of Templeton; and Randall Prebeck and wife Joanna of Johnston; several great nieces, nephews and friends.
