Gene Neppl, age 63, of Halbur, died Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2019, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The Celebrant will be Fr. Tim Friedrichsen. Music will be by Julie Sibbel and the St. Augustine Choir. Lector will be Nancy Hammitt. Gift Bearers will be Jill and Mike Schwartz. Eucharistic Ministers will be Diane Hannasch and Audrey Siepker. Casket Bearers will be Dave Jones, Randy Jones, Pat Renze, Jim Grossman, Keith Leiting, Keith Kult, and Jerry Wiskus. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. There will be a Christian Wake Service held at 5 p.m., and a Carroll Knights of Columbus Rosary Prayed at 7 p.m.
Additional visitation will be held at the church on Friday morning from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Anthony Hospital Foundation.

Gene, the son of Alonzo and Amanda (Ortner) Neppl was born on July 28, 1955, at Carroll, Iowa. He grew up in Halbur and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1973. After his education, Gene worked for his father hauling cattle to Omaha, and he later worked for General Electric in Carroll.
Gene was united in marriage to Joanne Bullmann on August 13, 1988, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur. The couple made their home in Halbur, and Gene worked at various jobs around the area. Gene enjoyed watching the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, Nascar, Bowling, Golfing, camping, riding his motorcycle, and assisting with the Halbur Celebration. Gene was a member of the Halbur City Council, the Halbur Fire Department, Halbur U., Western Iowa Cycle Riders, Knights of Columbus, and St. Augustine Parish.
Gene is survived by his wife Joanne Neppl of Halbur; his sister, Mary Ann (Robert) Knight of Peoria, IL; his nieces and nephews: Amanda Bullmann, Bob (Mary) Knight, Jill (Mike) Schwartz, Beth (Ken) Sun, Nancy (Chris) Hammitt, John (Angie) Knight; 11 great-nieces and great-nephews, and his 2 godchildren; as well as many friends from the area.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; Alonzo and Amanda Neppl; his parents-in-law: Albert and Lottie Bullmann; and his brother-in-law Albert Bullmann, Jr.
