Jim "Jolly" Ferneding, 68 of Manning, died Thursday, June 9, 2022 at his home.
A private family viewing and prayer will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton with burial to following in the parish cemetery. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Jim’s grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be Kevin Sturm, Scott Seidl, Jake Masching, Doug Ferneding, Dan Ferneding, Gary Ferneding, and Tim Ferneding.
A Funeral Memorial Mass for Jim will be held at a later date at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton.

James (Jim) Ferneding, the son of Alvin and Rita (Dentlinger) Ferneding, was born January 22, 1954, in Carroll, Iowa. Jim, nicknamed Jolly, grew up in rural Templeton, Iowa and attended school at Kuemper Catholic High School, Class of 1972. On June 17, 1978, Jim was united in marriage to Joyce A. Masching at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple resided and raised a family in rural Manning.
Jim spent the majority of his career running a diversified farming operation until the late 90s when he got out of livestock. In the early 2000s, he started working for Aspinwall Co-op retiring after 13 years of service. He continued his row-crop operation until 2021 shortly after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Jim was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton. He enjoyed antique tractor pulls, rope pulls, tractor rides, playing cards, farming and family. Later he was instrumental in facilitating local antique tractor rides alongside lifelong friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Midwest Iowa Old Iron Club. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids in their many activities. Though he was a John Deere and Chevy man, Jim and Joyce enjoyed leisurely rides in their Ford Mustang Convertible. Jim loved watching westerns, especially John Wayne. Jim and Joyce enjoyed traveling all over to destinations including Mexico multiple times, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Europe, Washington DC, Disney Cruise, Gulf Shores, AL and many other trips.
Left to celebrate his life is his wife, Joyce and their children: Brian and wife Tiffany (Wolterman) Ferneding of Polk City, IA, Amy and husband, Scott Hasenclever of Lebo, KS, and Abby and husband Brad Cowan of Plattsmouth, NE. Grandchildren: Ava and Toby Ferneding, Anna, Sam, and Sawyer Hasenclever, and Cyrus, Conor, and Corbyn Cowan. His siblings Lonnie and Betty Ferneding of Manning, Gene and Mary Ferneding of Carroll, Kay and Steve Schroeder of Kingsley, Jean Ferneding of Manning, Jane Ferneding and Tom Timperley of Blair Nebraska, Joni and Mike Warner of Manning, and Mark Ferneding of Manning; in-laws, Linda and Mike Berger of Arcadia, Diane and Dan Sturm of Carroll, Sandy and Kenneth Irlmeier of Elk Horn, Donna Pemble of Carroll, Dave and Deb Masching of Granger, Mary and Dave Trent of Carroll, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended relatives.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Rita Ferneding, his brother Mike Ferneding, In-laws Leon and Dorothy Masching and nephew Lance McNaught.
