Born on March 11, 1935, in Carroll, Iowa, Mary was the daughter of Tony and Mildred (Polking) Pick. She grew up on a farm outside of Breda and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School. Mary shared a close bond with her only sibling, her dear sister Jane Pick Kluver.
On June 20, 1953, Mary married the love of her life, Norman Ludwig. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and faith. They first settled in Auburn, where they owned and operated the Ludwig Standard service station. When Norman was drafted into the Korean War, Mary accompanied him to New Jersey while he was stationed there. Upon his deployment, she returned home to Breda, where she would remain for the rest of her life. Mary’s greatest joy came from her role as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was blessed with four children: Steven, Ann, Chris and Lisa.
She was a life-long member of St.Bernard's Catholic Church and its organizations. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. Her West of Breda neighbors were a source of lifelong friendship and support, and in her later years, she found new friendships and community at Garden View, which she cherished deeply.
Mary’s life was a testament to kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and strength, and her presence will be deeply missed.
