The Celebrant will be Fr. Terry Roder. Music will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir. Lector for the Funeral Mass will be Haley Onken. Gift Bearers will be Lucas and Logan Onken. Eucharistic Ministers will be Mark Main and Jennifer Koster. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Austin Peters, Dakota Peters, Dillon Peters, Derek Koster, Alex Main, Lucas Onken, Logan Onken and Wyatt Peters. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Patricia “Pat” “Patsy” Ann Koster was born on February 7, 1940, in Ramona, South Dakota the daughter of James and Winnie (Paul) Scanlan. She grew up in Odebolt and graduated from Odebolt-Arthur High School. She attended nurses training at St Anthony Hospital School in Carroll, Iowa and graduated as an LPN on July 17, 1960.
On January 28, 1961, Pat was united in marriage to Urban Koster at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt. The couple farmed and later moved into Breda in 1990. She worked for New Hope Village in Carroll for over 25 years. She loved baking and taking care of the grandkids. Pat also enjoyed playing cards, gardening, visiting with her friends at coffee and spending time with her family. She made lots of rosaries, some quilts and afghans, as well as baptismal garments. Pat was a great prayer warrior. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Church and was active in the Guild and Choir, as well as, several card clubs and a rosary makers group.
Survivors include her children: Julie (Mark) Main of Lincoln, NE; Leo (Cathy) Koster of Winterset; Ann Koster of Avoca; Gail (Mark) Peters of Lidderdale; Ray (Amy) Koster of Menlo; Beth Koster of Kansas City, MO; Neil (Frendie) Koster of West Des Moines; and Tami (Joel) Onken of Glidden; 15 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Donna Nieland of Omaha, NE; Robert (Peg) Scanlan of Lake City; Patrick (Shirley) Scanlan of Kiron; and James (Pam) Scanlan of Denison; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Anita (Duane) Hannasch, Myrna (Van) Schmidt, and Alice Thielen; Carol Scanlan as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Urban, her parents James and Winnie; her son and daughter-in-law Paul and Julia Koster; as well as her siblings: Thomas and John Scanlan.
