RE: Retraining/Training/Commissioning for ALL EMOHC
DATE: 2 May 2019 Memorial of St. Athanasius, Bishop/Doctor of the Church
On 24 June 2011 Bishop Nickless promulgated his
Guidelines and Norms for the Distribution and Reception of Holy Communion Under both Kinds and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. At that time, we renewed all current Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion [EMOHC] for a three-year term. In May 2014 Bishop Nickless implemented a three-year cycle for renewing the terms based on deaneries beginning in the Northwest and Southwest deaneries. A few years later, this process of renewal was placed on hold due to Ministry 2025 planning and the terms of all current EMOHC were extended until further notice.
On 5 February 2019, pastors in the Northeast and Southeast deaneries [we are in the Southeast Deanery] were notified that this is the year for the retraining of current EMOHC, the training of new EMOHCs, and the commissioning of all EMOHCs by 23 June 2019. Due to Lent and Easter activities it has taken a while for Deacon Greg and I to schedule training dates and locations.
Due to having around one hundred twenty-six [126] EMOHCs to retrain and possibly some new ones, Deacon Greg and I have set up the following training dates and locations:
Wednesday May 22, 7:00 p.m. at St. Bernard-BREDA
Wednesday June 5, 7:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton-GLIDDEN
Wednesday June 12, 7:00 p.m. at St. Augustine-HALBUR
There will be only three training sessions.
All current and new EMOHCs will need to be present for one [1] training session at any parish site in order to be commissioned at one of the six [6] Masses on the weekend of June 22-23, The Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, to fulfill the mandate of the Bishop given to us in February.
All EMOHCs who wish to be ministers of Holy Communion to the sick in nursing homes or private homes will need to take part in a special training session at the end of each session.
a copy of the Profession of Faith you will need to recite and sign the day you are commissioned

In order to help Deacon Greg and I prepare the materials we need for each session, please complete the enclosed form and send it to the parish office in Breda as soon as possible.
