Sharon Sporrer, 68 of Dedham, died Sunday, October 9, 2022, at her home near Dedham.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Merlin Schrad. Deacon Greg Archunde and Deacon Louis Meiners will assist with Funeral Mass. Music will be by Cindy Bauer and the parish choir. Lectors will be Addison Archunde, Jill Spies and Amy Overmohle. Gift Bearers will be Sharon’s grandchildren. Casket Bearers will be Mike Nepple, Nate Greving, Scott Sporrer, Dan Wiederin, Bryan Schmitz, and Mike Sporrer. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dedham.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Additional visitation will be from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church for Kuemper Catholic Schools or St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center.

Sharon (Schmitz) Sporrer was born on September 28, 1954, to Walter and Louise (Gehling) Schmitz in Carroll, IA. She grew up on a farm south of Templeton. Sharon attended Sacred Heart School in Templeton and graduated from Kuemper High School in Carroll in 1972. She graduated from Commercial Extension in Omaha and worked many years in the clerical field.
Sharon and Richard (Dick) Sporrer were married on August 20, 1977, by Fr. Merlin Schrad at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. They made their home on the family farm west of Dedham. Three children were born to this 45-year union: Becky, Barry and Terry.
The couple were blessed with ten grandchildren: Addison & Logan Archunde; Hannah, Charlotte & Josephine Sporrer; Erin, Ella, Ben, Kara & Brooklyn Sporrer. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life.
Sharon was 3-time past president of the Dedham American Legion Auxiliary, a member of St. Joseph’s Guild, and past Friends of Kuemper Ball chair. She worked many years in the secretarial field, Magistrate Court, the Carroll Chamber of Commerce, and Asurion to highlight a few. She held the position as Retired & Senior Volunteer Program Director for several years and since has been active as a volunteer in their Pen Pal Program with local 3rd graders and sewing walker/wheelchair totes for nursing homes. Sharon made life-long friends wherever she worked or volunteered whom she treasured.
Sharon enjoyed biking, walking, tending her flowers, birdwatching, going to lunch with friends, sewing, and spending time with her grandkids. She fought a brave, long battle with cancer, never complaining and meeting every challenge she faced head on. Her Catholic faith was essential to her strength. She will be missed by many.
Survivors include her husband, Dick; her children: Becky (Greg) Archunde of Parker, CO; Barry (Erin) Sporrer of Ft. Wayne, IN; Terry (Molly) Sporrer of Odebolt, IA; and their 10 grandchildren. Sharon’s siblings include Margene (Rick) Heisterkamp of Carroll; Tom (Dee) Schmitz of Templeton; Debra Nepple of Carroll; Gail (Marty) Greving of Willey. Her surviving in-laws include Don Sporrer of Denison; Helen (Ralph) Wiederin of Carroll; Jim (Kathy) Sporrer of Pontiac, IL; Rosie Sporrer of Templeton; Wayne Sporrer of Westside; Linda Sporrer of Dedham; Paul (Bonnie) Sporrer of Dedham; Doris (Ron) Peterson of Bondurant, IA; Dale (Jan) Sporrer of Dedham; and many nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by: Walter & Louise Schmitz (Parents); John & Bonita Sporrer (Father-in-Law & Mother-In-Law; Brothers-in-Law: Eugene Nepple, LaVerne Sporrer, Bob Sporrer and Sister-in-Law Rosalie Sporrer.
